Conduits

What Is A Conduit?

A conduit or cable protection conduit system is a product or system used to enclose & route electrical wiring or cables whilst also protecting personnel. Conduits also protect cables and wiring from UV rays, electricity, liquids, radiation, weather, chemicals, fire, unsuitable temperatures, compression, friction and many other hazards. There are many different conduit types available in Australia to suit specific applications, requirements and safety standards. Conduits can vary in size, material, construction, and colour and can have connectors applied as required.

Types Of Conduits And The Different Uses For Conduits

There are many different types of conduits available on the market. With a wide range of conduits stocked in our NZ-based warehouses including conduits for special applications, we can fulfil orders efficiently. Cable protection conduit systems are ideal for applications where power and data cables require dependable protection. Cable protection conduits include the Divisible cable protection systems, the Jumbo cable protection systems, and the PMAFIX Pro system. With the many different types of conduits available, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications and industries including:

Machine building

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Traction vehicles
  • Rail infrastructure
  • Automation/robotics
  • Ship & off-shore
  • Energy
  • Vehicle building
  • Telecommunications
  • Building Construction
  • Food & beverage
  • Extreme hazardous areas
  • Repairs, retrofits and pre-loomed applications
  • Mining equipment
  • Static and slightly dynamic applications
  • Applications at high or very low temperatures
  • For the highest fire and passenger safety requirements
  • Robotics and automation
  • For the highest UV and weather resistance requirements
  • Electric cabinets and appliance construction
  • Heavy machine and plant construction

Benefits Of Plastic Conduits

Plastic conduits are made of high-grade PVC. Plastic conduits offer several benefits over other types of materials or products used for cable and wiring protection. They are lightweight, portable, and easy to install. This makes them less expensive than other alternatives without compromising on safety, quality, or durability.

They can be easily routed through small spaces and less skill is required for installation as they don't need to be welded, don’t require brazing components and are much easier to cut. Plastic conduits are also more lightweight than other materials, are more flexible and are resistant to combustion, chemicals & corrosion.

Electrical Conduits

An electrical conduit is a tubular raceway used to protect and route electrical wiring. Electrical conduits can be installed in a variety of locations, depending on their specific requirements. They are often buried underground to protect the wiring from physical damage, installed inside walls to protect the wiring from fire hazards and can also be installed on ceilings to protect the wiring from pests and other animals.

There are many types of conduits, each with its specific uses. In New Zealand, we are suppliers of the PMA® range of conduits that includes electrical conduits. PMA's range includes different mono- and multilayer conduit types that are suitable for applications with high technical demands. Conduit sizes range from 4.5 mm to 125 mm, from lightweight to heavyweight and pliable to highly flexible.
